A Few Simple Drawing Ideas to Try Before Christmas
Need a few simple drawing ideas to use for Christmas? These tutorials will start you on your way to beautiful, handmade gifts or your own décor.
If you live like I do, Christmas is a busy time filled with preparations and plans for gathering and gifting. I try not to get caught up in the hype of Christmas, but I do love the occasion to give a few gifts to the people I couldn’t live without, those I appreciate fondly, and those who impact me throughout the year. Is it about the gifts or the caring? I like gifts and celebrating, but I really like a reason to be able to give a little something to show I care.
Drawing helps me ground myself in the present, hone my focus to one thing, and rest my mind from decision fatigue. Sounds like just what I might need in the bustle of Christmas. You too?
Here you’ll find a few drawing ideas to try before Christmas. Use them to take a break, add a touch of handmade to your gifts, or to decorate your own home for the holidays. Whatever you decide, enjoy each moment.
Drawing Ideas to Try Before Christmas
Draw a Christmas Tree
This has to be one of my favorite tutorials for combining loose watercolors and calligraphy. The lettering flows over the tree creating a gold shimmery ribbon, the watercolor creates the hint of a tree outline, while the branches and berries add just the right amount of contrast. I hope you like the mix as much as I do.
3 Drawings for Holiday Gift Tags
If you like painting your own gift tags, this tutorial is just for you. You’ll learn how to create three different simple Christmas drawings perfect for all of your holiday tags. The tutorial combines drawing with a calligraphy pen, layers of watercolor, and shimmery gel pens. What could be more fun?! Feel free to choose your own colors and try them all over and over again.
Draw Christmas on the Beach
Sometimes when we have loads of snow, it’s fun to think about a tropical Christmas. In this tutorial, you can draw your Christmas at the beach. Learn how to draw a surfboard and decorate it for your festive celebration.
Paint a Recipe Card
And finally … learn to paint a red winterberry background to use as a recipe card for all of those tempting treats you gather and want to make again. The only ink you’ll use for this tutorial will be when you write your recipe in calligraphy.
I hope you are enjoying your holiday season and finding refreshing moments inside the busyness. Make lots of good memories, and hold your loved ones close as you do.
