It’s 2018

Another year started. Wow. 2018. The number feels big to me, but it’s here anyway.

Some people make resolutions at the start of the year. I prefer to live resolutions everyday. To seek to know a better me, be a better me, understand others more and connect better with them, to quit something that harms me (except coffee … one addiction is forgivable, right? It grows on a tree … I’ve heard that makes it salad really.) and try something new whenever I want to instead of just at the start of the year.

Still … the new year brings a feeling of change, much like spring. It brings a hope for more of the energy and positivity part of life and less of the slogging-through-mud part of life. We hope to see more of the best in ourselves and less of the worst.

This year, I wanted to find a word. I like words … writing them, using them, drawing them. It’s not a resolution; it’s just a word with multifaceted meaning for me. The word might change tomorrow or morph into something bigger, but today, the word is …

(Ignore the pieces of debris from the rest of the picture. I stole it from a piece of art I played with while waiting for the new year to show up.)

This year, I want to invest in different aspects of life. When I think of investing in something, it’s more than financial. When I am truly invested in something, I’m engaged and paying attention. It’s the the difference between standing in a room with someone and being present mentally with them. Being present is investing. It’s listening when they talk and asking questions. It’s showing interest in them over just standing beside them.

I want to invest more in …

Relationships/practicing presence

Communication

Creativity

Financial pursuits

Balancing life

Learning about Trauma (learning in general)

Rejuvenation

This means I will likely write less about gardening.

I’m thinking through some different patches of life. They may change my blog. For now, we’ll see where it leads. I need to do some planning and processing.

Until then, I’ll keep writing (because I need the practice), and I may still update about the bees and greenhouse sometimes. Just know the wheels are turning.

What changes will 2018 bring to your life?

Just a brainy creative with a fascination about how people think and understand. I use watercolor and letter design to encourage connection ... with self, the environment, and especially the people who live there.
